Anxi Tie Guan Yin Oolong Premium Autumn Tea Golden Gift Set

Anxi Tie Guan Yin Oolong Premium Autumn Tea Golden Gift Set

SKU: AXTGY-AU-S250-GS

This tea has a very sweet, appetizing honey-life fragrance, taste and finishing. The sweet aftertaste will linger on in your mouth after a few sips. Good for multiple infusions.

  •      The tea is named after the Chinese Goddess of Mercy Guanyin, who is known in Japan as Kannon and in Korea as Gwan-eum. Guanyin is a female embodiment of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva. Other spellings and names include "Ti Kuan Yin", "Tit Kwun Yum", "Ti Kwan Yin", "Iron Buddha", "Iron Goddess Oolong", and "Tea of the Iron Bodhisattva".

This is probably the most famous of all Chinese Oolong teas. The name Tie Guan Yin means "Iron Goddess of Mercy" and the tea is as magnificent as its name implies. There are many legends surrounding the origin of its name and one of it tells the story of a kind-hearted but poor farmer named Wei Yin. Despite working hard every day to make a living, Wei Yin would spend his free time tending an abandoned Guan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) temple he found near his place. One day, he fell asleep in the temple and dreamed about the Goddess telling him to look for a cave behind the temple. There, he found a single tea shoot where he took home and planted it in an iron pot. Slowly, it grew into a tea bush with exceptional quality tea leaves. Wei then gave cuttings to his neighbors and friends to grow. The County soon prospered due to the popularity of the tea. Tie Guan Yin can now be found in the menu of most Chinese restaurants throughout the world.

    Other names:
Ti Kwan Yin, Anxi Tie Guan Yin, Iron Goddess of Mercy

    Appearance:
Black bloom, tight and straight round green leaves. The infusion is golden yellow in color.

Pretty interesting Puerh

I have to readily admit this Puerh is nothing like the Puerh I had drunk when I was a teenager living in Hong Kong during the 70s, where my grandma always served us some 100-year old Puerh tea with deep dark color, was never bitter, but was always "sweet". That I ready the description of this Puerh and learned that it was "raw" and that it should be broken apart and air out. Well, only ordered a sample pack and most of the tea leaves were still clumped together and I did not have the time to air it out. It does have a unique taste, more like a green tea than a fermented black tea. In short, it is really not too bad and possible if I prepare it correctly, it may even taste better. But if you want a tradition Puerh tea, this would not be for you, but if you do not like the strong taste of regular Puerh tea, you may enjoy this one.

A bit disappointing!

I used to drink the Jasmine pearl tea sold by Ten Ren Tea ($37.75 for 4 oz.) and it is not bad, then in the last year or two, their Jasmine pearl tea still smelled good but did not have any taste, something had changed. Therefore I had high hope with this tea. It smelled just as good as that of Ten Ren's but when drinking it, it was bitter and did not have any flagrant of Jasmine tea. Quite disappointing and I do hope the would allow my post. When I was a child, the Jasmine tea I drank in Shanghi restaurants in Hong Kong, with color like that of beer and full of aroma. Sad that it could not be found anywhere.
